Prenatal care is important for promoting and ensuring healthy habits during pregnancy as well as preventing or detecting any problems or complications that could arise. Prenatal appointments are booked every 4-5 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2-3 weeks until 36 weeks then weekly until the baby is born.
Prenatal visits with midwives typically lasts 30-45 minutes each. Clients are welcome to bring partners, support people and/or children.
A prenatal visit includes: Maternal blood pressure check, assessment of fetal growth, fetal heart rate and fetal position. Concerns and questions are answered and different topics are discussed to prepare our clients for pregnancy, labor, delivery and life with a newborn. During these visits, midwives can order all routine screening, tests and ultrasounds for their clients.
Occasionally, appointments will need to be rescheduled because the midwife is attending a labor/birth. Every effort will be made to contact our clients as soon as possible but we appreciate understanding and patience when this happens on short notice.
